The anxiety of leaving lockdown

As lockdown measures are relaxed, many people have mixed emotions and some are experiencing higher levels of anxiety. “Freedom itself can be rather anxiety inducing,” writes psychotherapist Nick Blackburn, and the relatively sudden switch from strict rules to fewer restrictions can feel emotionally overwhelming. The different ways people interpret the rules and a return of social interaction can be concerning, particularly among people more vulnerable to the virus. Taking “baby steps” back into social settings can help, says therapist Jennifer Chappell Marsh, as can focusing on what you can control, such as washing your hands.
