Five officials executed in North Korea including US representative, according to South Korean daily

US fficials working with Kim Yong Chol have not been seen since the summit.

A South Korean daily called Chosun Ilbo claimed that US Representative Kim Hyok Chol and four foreign ministry officials have been executed. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said they were investigating the news.
According to Reuters, North Korean sources say that they were executed because of the failure of the summit in Vietnam at the end of February between US President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un.
According Chosun Ilbo, the five officials who organized the summit were executed at Mirim Airport, accused of spying for the US.
At the second summit in Hanoi between Trump and Kim, the US administration stipulated that the Korean Peninsula should be completely free of nuclear weapons in order for the sanctions to be removed.

A spokesman for the South Korean Ministry of Unification refused to comment on Ilbo Chosun’s allegations. The spokesman said that “it would not be appropriate to speak on an issue that has not yet been confirmed”.
Kim Hyok Chol was being regarded as one of North Korea’s “rising stars” before being tasked with organizing the summit.
