World spiritual and political leaders united around Notre Dame fire tragedy

Balashov: We hope that this horrible loss we experienced during the days of the Holy Week is conducive to unite with the common grief of Western Christians.

According to Sputnik, the Russian Orthodox Church Foreign Affairs Department official Nikolay Balashov talked to a Russian news agency about the fire that caused the collapse of Notre Dame Cathedral’s tower and roof.  Balashov said These ancient columns of Europe were also a part of our souls and our spiritual history. ’

Balashow added that Russians value ‘these wonders of the old God’s world, these remnants of holy wonders.’

Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said that the fire was ‘shocking and saddens us all,’ in a statement.

Former US President Barack Obama said in a statement on Twitter, ‘It’s in our nature to mourn when we see history lost — but it’s also in our nature to rebuild for tomorrow, as strong as we can.’

Us President Trump also expressed his grief regarding the incident. At an event in Minnesota, President Trump described the incident as a “terrible, terrible fire” at “one of the great treasures in the world.” He added that the cathedral was “a part of our culture.’ He finally urged French authorities on social media to take action urgently.
