In the second round of Sunday’s presidential elections in Ukraine, according to polls, Vladimir Zelenskiy received 73.3 percent of the vote, while President Petro Poroshenko received 24.3 percent. Thus, Petro Poroshenko, who had ruled the country for 5 years, lost his seat as president.
On the 31st of March, Zelenskiy had 30.24 percent and Poroshenko had 15.95 percent of the vote. Former Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko was eliminated in third place.
41 years old Zelenskiy who was elated after learning the election results said, “I would like to thank all Ukrainians, those who supported me and those who didn’t support me. I will not disappoint anyone.”
Accepting the defeat, former president Poroshenko said, “the people of Ukraine have decided. I congratulate my opponent. To protect Ukraine we must all unite. I leave the presidential seat, but I will not leave politics.’
