The Legend of the Ugly King, a biopic about actor and screenwriter Yılmaz Güney, had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last year.
Hüseyin Tabak’s The Legend of the Ugly King centres on his screenwriting project on Guney’s life, and includes interviews with the Guney’s family, colleagues and friends, as well as documenting Guney’s worldview, his views on art and life.
The film will also include rare archive footage of Guney’s films. .
Yılmaz Güney‘s wife Fatoş Güney, her daughter Elif Güney Pütün, her sister Leyla Demirezen, his actor and actress friends Tuncel Kurtiz, Tarık Akan, Abdullah Keskiner, Nebahat Çehre, Halil Ergün and Ahmet Zirek, as well as directors Michaal Haneke and Costa Gavras share their views on Guney in the documentary. They take part in the documentary with important words about life and cinema. The documentary also shows Tarık Akan and Tuncel Kurtiz in an interview recorded for the documentary before they passed away.
