Flavio Godinho, spokesman for the Minas Gerais State Civil Defense Agency in Brazil, stated that the number of people who lost their lives as a result of the collapse of the waste dam in Brumadinho increased from 84 to 99, and that the number of missing persons was 259.
Authorities stopped the search and rescue work in the region temporarily due to heavy rain fall.
Following the catastrophe, five engineers at the Vale SA mine waste company have been detained and three have been arrested for the collapse of the waste dam.
The police have identified 51 of the 99 people who lost their lives.
About 3,000 people were evacuated in the city of Brumadinho due to the collapse of the waste dam.
Vale SA announced that 100.000 reales (26400 dollars) will be given to the families of the victims of the accident.
