Abdullah Öcalan has been visited by his brother Mehmet Öcalan today.
Ocalan is in solitary confinement at İmralı High Security F Type Prison. He has not been in contact with his lawyers and family for years.
Leyla Güven, MP for HDP, the Kurdish opposition party in Turkey, has been on hunger strike for 66 days to remove the isolation. Güven’s health is in critical condition which prevents her from seeing her lawyer.
Öcalan’s lawyers have not been able to meet him, while his family have not been able to see him since September 11, 2016. His brother Mehmet Öcalan who met him today was the person who had met him the last time.
The last Imrali delegation that included Idris Baluken and Sırrı Süreyya Önder, currently in prison, had held their last meeting on 5 April 2015 with Öcalan.
It is not known whether Leyla Guven will end her hunger strike after the visit. Guven’s lawyer Reyhan Yalçındağ said that Güven is in critical condition.
‘We will be visiting the prison with the other lawyers tonight. After the meeting, we have to prepare a referral to the hospital if Guven ends her hunger strike,’ Yalcindag said.
